Letter C books for preschool for Kindergarten Booklist. This alphabet booklist is a part of the series Sprinkled with Stories: Teaching the Alphabet Through Stories. It can be daunting to think about teaching your young ones their letters. Relax. 🙂 Kids learn so much through play and stories. There is no need to drill flashcards every day. Although flashcards do have a purpose, especially in play. Simply grab one or two living books from the Letter C Books for Preschool booklist and began to introduce the letters and the sounds during story time and play time. Grab some letter blocks or letter puzzles for play after story time.

1. Corduroy by Don Freeman

His desire for a home is strong, and Lisa gives him a home and friendship.

C is for Carrots.

2. Too Many Carrots by Katy Hudson

This little rabbit has too many carrots which overflow his house. His friends offer him help, but his greed ruins their homes. Rabbit learns his lesson and shares his carrots.

3. The Carrot Seed by Ruth Krauss

In the face of skepticism, a young boy plants a carrot seed, waters it, and cultivates it into the biggest carrot in many neighboring counties. This simple story focuses on a little boy’s determination and patience.

C is for Caterpillar.

4. The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

This classic picture book is a must for a child’s home library. I cannot say enough great things about this beautiful book. The very hungry caterpillar has its fill of many different foods throughout the week. With a tummy ache, he munches on a green leaf before being a part of one of the most miraculous marvels of nature.

C is for Caps.

5. Caps for Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina

Can the peddler outwit these silly hat-loving monkeys? This is a humorous story of a peddler and some mischievous monkeys. Caps for Sale is a great option for early readers because of the repetition and simple plot.

C is for Camping.

6. A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee by Chris Van Dusen

Mr. Magee takes his dog, Dee, on a camping trip but they get into trouble with a marshmallow-loving bear. This is one of our favorite books from Chris Van Dusen. I love the simple rhyme and colorful illustrations.

7. Hello World! Let’s Go Camping by Jill McDonald (ages 1-3)

This is a simple and fun board book about camping, introducing toddlers and preschoolers to the adventure of camping from the gear to campground etiquette.

C is for Cactus.

8. Nobody Hugs a Cactus by Carter Goodrich

Hank, the grumpiest and prickliest cactus in the desert. Despite his love for peace and isolation, a simple comment, “Nobody hugs a cactus,” sparks an unfamiliar feeling in Hank. Slowly but surely, a seed of desire to have a friend takes root in his prickly little heart. Hank is reminiscent of the stereotypical old man yelling at kids to get off his lawn who needs a friend. The beautiful illustrations convey the story and emotion clearly.

C is for Courage.

9. The Courage of the Little Hummingbird: A Tale Told Around the World by Leah Henderson

This is a retelling of the animal fable about the courage of the Little Hummingbird. In the face of a devastating fire that engulfs the Great Forest, the Little Hummingbird motivates the animal community to unite and save their homes.

10. If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Joffe Numeroff

I can completely relate to this book. Be prepared if you give a mouse a cookie, it will lead to many, many more activities and tasks. Mouse always seems to have a great time.

C is for Cat.

11. Millions of Cats by Wanda Gag

An elderly couple desires to have a cat, but in their search, they bring “hundreds of cats, thousands of cats, millions and billions and trillions of cats.”

C is for Cow.

12. Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type by Doreen Cronin

I would be demanding an electric blanket too. The cows found an old typewriter in the barn and began making demands. We love the Click Clack Moo series!

C is for Chicken.

13. Catch that Chicken by Atinuke

This sweet story is about Lami, the best chicken catcher in the village. Lami is fast, but one day, she falls out of the great baobab tree while chasing a chicken. With an ankle puffed up like an angry lizard, Lami learns a new way to catch chickens with the help of Nana Nadia.

14. Rosie’s Walk by Pat Hutchins

This is a timeless picture book featuring Rosie, the hen who takes a stroll with a fox following close behind her. Fortunately, the fox is unsuccessful in each attempt to capture her. Don’t miss the sequel – Where, Oh, Where is Rosie’s Chick.

C is for Cloud.

15. The Cloud Book by Tomie dePaola

This is an educational book about clouds including an introduction to the types of clouds and some myths and legends about clouds. This might interest more older kids and older readers. But I love teaching my kids to cloud watch and let the shapes of clouds spark their imagination.

16. Little Cloud by Eric Carle

The beloved author of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Eric Carle tells a story of a fluffy little cloud that trails behind the others. The Little Cloud loves to change into fun shapes and eventually joins the others to produce a rainstorm.

C is for Cloak.

17. Charlie Needs A Cloak by Tomie dePaola

A shepherd named Charlie needs a new cloak. Venture with him through every step of the process to create a beautiful red cloak in this classic tale. From shearing his sheep to carding and spinning the wool, weaving and dyeing the cloth, and sewing it all together, Tomie dePaola’s simple text and illustrations are sure to captivate readers of all ages.
