What are the benefits of using Do A Dot Markers?
Do A Dot Markers (not an affiliate link) are chunky markers with a large sponge tip. My favorite part about this fat marker is that it encourages a fisted grip (also known as palmar supinated grip), the first type of grip that kids develop, making it the perfect prewriting tool for little hands. As young children practice manipulating a chunky writing tool, the movement comes from their shoulders. They learn better control of their fingers, strengthen their hand, and develop distal control with proximal stability (meaning they can turn on core/trunk muscles and move only the lower half of the arm while writing). Plus, this is a fun art medium that allows kids to mix, layer, and blend their colors.
Here are a few benefits of using these Do A Dot Worksheets alphabet at home and in the classroom:
- practice fine motor skills
- improve letter recognition
- increase hand-eye coordination
- develop prewriting skills
- practice visual scanning
- improve language skills in a interactive and fun way
- learn the letters of the alphabet and the corresponding words
- improve memory skills by learning and reviewing the alphabet and words
- develop graded pressure
- improve precision
- strengthen hand and finger muscles
How can I use these Free Printable Do A Dot Alphabet Worksheets?
These FREE Alphabet Worksheets provide excellent learning opportunities for young learners. There are many different ways to use these Alphabet Worksheets even without the Do A Dot Markers.
Here are a few ways to use the Do A Dot Alphabet Set using the Do A Dot Markers:
- daub the marker on each dot of the large letter
- connect the dots to make the letter
- trace the letter with a finger
- daub each dot with the correct letter on the word find
- point to each letter and demonstrate the sound the letter makes
- find the letter in the corresponding word
Here are a few ways to use the Do A Dot Printables without using the Do A Dot Markers:
- use a circle sponge brush with safe, non-toxic paint to daub each dot of the large letter, then connect the dots with a large brush stroke
- outline the letters with loose objects such as craft pom poms, coins, loose parts, play dough, rocks, etc.
- allow your child to dip their little fingers into finger paint and daub at each dot
- place the worksheet into a sheet protector and use dry erase markers
- use dot sticker pages (pulling the sticks off the page is great fine motor practice)
When you are done with the worksheets, rather than tossing them. Have you child practice cutting out the large letters and arrange them in alphabetical order. Allow you kids to use the dots worksheets in their own creative way.
Add this fun activity to lesson plans, part of a letter of the week, circle time (small group), hands-on learning time, letter recognition activities, sensory play, and early learning fun for a great way to enhance your kids’ or students’ language development and prewriting skills.
Always supervise your children when playing with printables. Young children could chew on paper (or other craft markers such as marker caps, craft pom-poms etc), which can lead to choking.

Thanks for Stopping By!
Lastly, I want to thank you for stopping by! Please say Hi in the comment section and share your favorite art medium to use with little learners. My girls discovered Do A Dot Markers at their grandparents, and I have loved incorporating them into our homeschool and early learning. I will note that the regular colors last a long time without drying out, but the brighter colors dry quicker. Since we love the markers, I made these printables for them. It’s been the perfect addition to our morning menu for preschool homeschooling. I have more plans for our markers and hope to share those printables soon. The good news is that all my digital products will be FREE.
Come grow with us by joining our monthly mailing list. I hope you have a beautiful day and happy early learning! I truly appreciate your support and kindness.
