In our home, we take a gentle and loving approach to preschool, incorporating read-alouds and morning menus. We recently added this Calendar template to our morning schedule to work on calendar skills, patterns, and numerical skills such as counting, letter recognition, and skip counting.
Our favorite way to use this template is to laminate the printable preschool calendar, months, and days. Then, add a velcro dot to the months and days with the corresponding dot on the template.
This makes the perfect interactive calendar for little learners.
Below is the preschool calendar template that I use with my young children. This template can be used each month for any year, removing the inconvenience of keeping up with 12 or more printables or printing off a new sheet each month. The days of the week represent a color pattern of blue and green to help young children learn to skip count and create a simple pattern. How to Print the Printable Preschool Calendar Bundle?
Print on Cardstock.
The pdf file includes 12 pages. Print at home, local library, or store. The pages contain low to moderate levels of color to help draw the attention and delight of younger children. For best results, print the calendar template and day/month cards on cardstock.
Laminate.
I highly recommend laminating the calendar template and month/day cards for increased durability.

How can I use the printable preschool calendar with my kids?
Using this simple calendar on a regular basis adds a fun rhythm to our morning. After breakfast, my oldest sings the months of the year song with me. Followed by counting the days on the calendar and adding the number for the day. She then counts forwards. We talk about the pattern and I demonstrate skip counting. Lastly, we sing the days of the week song. This daily task helps us transition to the next part of our day.
Here is how to make the most of your printable preschool calendar bundle:
- Place velcro dots on the back of the laminated print cards for the months and the numbers and then the corresponding velcro dots on the laminated calendar template
- Start with one skill before adding more. Here are a few ways to break down the skills
- manipulating the velcro components and improving fine motor skills
- singing the months of the year song
- counting the days
- singing the days of the week song
- determining the color pattern (noting that today’s number should be green/blue)
- determining the day of the week by using the calendar
- skip counting using the color pattern
- counting backwards
- simple adding and subtracting (how many days until ___)
Tips for using this printable calendar with young kids:
- expect a learning curve for your young children
- take time to teach your kids how to use the calendar
- start by singing just the months of the year
- don’t try to work in too many skills at once
